This thesis started with the following question : « what are useless objects useful for? » But quickly, the « –less » of « useless » was eliminated, as my research showed that all objects are inevitably useful in some way. This « –less » was in fact the element with which, at first, I implied the absence of purpose of a practical nature. But as the text unfolds, practical function turns out not to be the principal reason of existence of objects as much as was expected at first.

While writing about this complex question related to the function of objects, it was impossible not to keep in mind that this text would inevitably take up the shape of an object too, a book in this case. Hence, the relation between the text (investigating objects) and the shape of this very object (mirroring the text) is reasserted through its design.
