This installation came forth from the inspiration gained during a trip in Karelia, a region in the northeast of Finland. The fragile ceramic structures are an interpretation of the thickly snow-covered landscapes which can be seen in this region.
The installation is the outcome of an experimental process, where possibilities of draping ceramic around paper structures were explored in order to create hollow, thin and soft shapes. The paper structures under the ceramic material disappeared during the firing process. Only the ceramic outer shell remained, thereby representing the paradoxical characteristics of snow : fragile and light, yet all concealing.
